Edinburgh’s House of Gods Hotel – A Decadent Stay for Anti-Minimalists

Back in May, I travelled north for a well-deserved break. It was my first visit to Scotland’s capital, and my second visit overall to beautiful Scotland. Edinburgh, renowned for its historic charm, cultural richness, and glorious landscapes, absolutely did not disappoint. But the true highlight of my visit was my overnight stay at the House of Gods Hotel. A decadent hotel nestled amongst the centuries-old architecture and picturesque streets.

I can assure you, House of Gods is unlike any other hotel you have stayed in before—offering a blend of contemporary design and timeless style, it’s a truly unique experience you won’t forget.

A Glimpse into Opulence

As is the case with most hotels, the House of Gods Hotel is a place to rest—but it’s so much more than that. As I stepped into the opulent bar and reception area, I was immediately enveloped in an aura of gothic sophistication.

I can only describe the interior design as a funky fusion of classic elegance and edgy modernity—the kind of interior that made want to change into a flowing black cocktail dress (preferably sequined) and smoke a cigarette while sipping on an Old Fashioned at the bar, batting off male attention.

As we were lead to our room via an archaic maze of stunning corridors, I couldn’t help but think of the Disney movie, The Haunted Mansion (OG Eddie Murphy one). They were adorned in red velvet, ambient lighting, and majestic old mirrors.

As for the rooms, there are three to choose from: The Cabin, The Classic, and The Suite. I stayed in a classic room therefore cannot comment on the others, but mine was a genuine sanctuary of comfort and dark aesthetics. A very me type of room.

Each room is uniquely designed, showcasing meticulous attention to detail. A glorious four-poster bed with plush bedding and sumptuous pillows that created an unparalleled sense of luxury.

While the rooms are quite small, I found this only contributed to the glorious maximalist effect. Everywhere you look there is something beautiful to behold. There’s a hidden TV mirror, marble-clad ensuites, hand-built drinks bar with a selection of beverages, luxury oak panelling, and a hidden Nespresso machine…

VIP Service

For the FULL experience, you MUST indulge in their ‘Treat Me Like I’m Famous’ package – you will not regret it. It’s a truly VIP-like service including:

  • Your bed scattered with petal and balloons, plus a box of handmade luxury chocolates.
  • A prosecco bell—yes, a prosecco bell! Press it as many times as you please to summon the on-call butler to bring you a glass of fizz.
  • The Millionaire’s in-room cocktail service where their “star-tender” will visit your room to prepare House of Gods’ most exclusive cocktail!
  • A ginormous pizza prepared by one of Edinburgh best pizza joints, Civerinos, delivered straight to your door (I am not exaggerating when I say it was best damn pizza I’d ever had).
  • Bedtime milk and cookies delivered to your room by the butler.
  • Of course there’s breakfast, too! A luxury breakfast hamper with Mimosa chasers will be delivered the next morning for you to enjoy in bed.
  • A much appreciated late check-out.

Further Highlights

While the whole experience was a highlight in itself, there were some stellar standouts that I must bring to your attention.

First all, the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff—nothing was too much trouble, everything was delivered to us with a smile and a passing joke or compliment—I loved it! Also, they are reachable via WhatsApp, this made asking for things very convenient, and their reply time was fabulous.

The cocktails were all impeccable, but my favourite was by far the No.5 House of Gods served in a Chanel perfume bottle. It exuded all kinds of elegance and was absolutely delicious.

So, if you find yourself in the city of Edinburgh, I highly recommend you spend at least one night in this hotel, and be sure to treat yourself to their VIP package for the full decadent experience.

Thank you for having me @houseofgodshotel, I can’t wait to visit you again.
